Caitlin Clark Declares for WNBA Draft, Capping Historic Iowa Career

Caitlin Clark, the nation’s leading scorer in women’s college basketball, has announced she will forego her final year of NCAA eligibility and enter the 2024 WNBA Draft. Clark is expected to be the number one overall pick after putting together one of the most prolific careers in recent memory at the University of Iowa.

Over three seasons, Clark established herself as the focal point of the Iowa women’s basketball program, garnering national attention with her elite scoring ability and playmaking skills. She helped lead Iowa to new heights, including a run to the Final Four in 2022.

Along the way, Clark repeatedly topped the NCAA in major statistical categories, broke numerous school and conference records, and earned All-American honors each season. Her on-court brilliance made her a household name in the college game and a human highlight reel capable of scoring from all over the court.

By leaving Iowa a year early, Clark is poised to take her talents to the WNBA as a transformational talent. As the likely top pick heading to the Indiana Fever, she will stay in the Midwest where much of her enthusiastic fanbase resides.

Clark will now set her sights on bringing a championship to Indiana, pairing with 2021 top pick Aliyah Boston to form an elite inside-out duo. If Clark can replicate even some of her collegiate production as a pro, Indiana could return to playoff contention quickly.

But before beginning her professional journey, Clark still has business to finish at Iowa. She will say goodbye during Senior Day festivities on March 5th against rival Ohio State. That game also represents a chance at revenge for an earlier overtime loss.

After that, Clark will contend for a national championship in her final games donning the Black and Gold. By declaring her intentions now, she eliminates distraction and speculation during Iowa’s critical postseason run.

Clark leaves Iowa having more than delivered on her goal as a recruit – delivering a Final Four berth. More than that, she used her platform to grow the game and establish herself as an icon perfectly suited for this era of women’s basketball. Her graduation will close a glorious chapter at Iowa, but opens exciting new possibilities as she chases basketball glory at the highest levels.
