TikTok Gears Up to Launch Photo-Sharing App, TikTok Photos
TikTok, the viral video-sharing platform, is venturing into the photo-sharing arena with its upcoming app, TikTok Photos. This move is seen as a direct challenge to Instagram, which previously introduced Reels to compete with TikTok in the video space.
Clues about TikTok Photos were discovered within the TikTok app’s Android Package Kit (APK) file, which revealed icons and references to the new photo-sharing platform. According to the description found in the code, TikTok Photos aims to cater to “like-minded people who enjoy photo posts.”
TechCrunch reports that the description for the latest version 33.8.5 reads, “Whether you’re a world traveller, food blogger, or simply enjoy sharing what’s going on in your life, TikTok Photos is our all-new photo-sharing platform dedicated to helping creators like you reach other like-minded people.”
The new app is described as an “all-new photo-sharing platform” that provides users with an easier way to enjoy and discover photo posts. It suggests a user-friendly interface and integration with the main TikTok platform, allowing users to seamlessly share content between the two apps.
While the official release date and availability of TikTok Photos are still unknown, speculation is rife that a launch event might be happening soon.
TikTok’s foray into photo-sharing comes at a time when the company is facing increasing scrutiny from US lawmakers. This week, the US House of Representatives is expected to vote on legislation that could potentially ban TikTok from operating within US territory due to data privacy concerns. President Joe Biden has reportedly extended his support for the bill, vowing to sign it if approved by the US Congress.
