YouTube Revamps the TV App for an Immersive Viewing Experience.
YouTube is rolling out a redesigned TV app to cater to the growing number of viewers who watch content on their smart TVs. With watch time reaching over 1 billion hours per day, YouTube aims to deliver a richer and more streamlined “lean back” experience tailored for television screens.
The updated app features a reduced video playback window, allowing users to simultaneously access video descriptions, comments, and browse related content. Sports enthusiasts will appreciate the addition of live scores whenever available. Users can now watch videos and read comments side by side, addressing a long-standing issue where comments previously obscured part of the video.
The revamped UI streamlines access to essential controls like play, pause, rewind, and fast forward, providing a more intuitive and user-friendly experience. These enhancements are a direct result of user feedback, prioritizing attention to the video, simplicity, and interactivity.
While accessing comments on the YouTube TV app has become more convenient, users still cannot add new comments, which remains limited to smartphones and computers. Interestingly, Elon Musk, the owner of X (formerly Twitter), has confirmed the upcoming launch of a video-centric app for televisions, potentially competing with YouTube’s offering and promising a similar user experience.
